An anonymous #donor stepped up to help the hungry in #NorthCarolina in a big way by sending a $200,000 check to a North Carolina food bank.
The funds will be sent to the nonprofit Food Connection to help purchase more food, which Cultura, a local restaurant in #Asheville, North Carolina, will make into meals for people affected by the #coronavirus.
The donor was looking at social media and found that Cultura, a James Beard Award nominee, was shifting its operations to distribute some 900 meals per week for Food Connection and the YMCA of Western North Carolina at the beginning of the coronavirus #pandemic.
The partnership among the three entities inspired the donor to donate not only to Food Connection but to the YMCA of Western North Carolina to cover food and distribution costs as well.
The team can create up to 5,000 meals per week thanks to the anonymous donation, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported. “We are beyond thrilled to have been entrusted with this gift, which could not have arrived at a more critical time. Our neighbors desperately need food right now,” said Flori Pate, Co-founder and Executive Director of Food Connection. “Because of this generous donation, we can move these delicious meals more quickly and increase service to rural areas that are seeing their needs quadruple,” she added.
Meals have gone to people who have lost their homes, homebound senior citizens, and the unemployed. #binspirednews
